New Seminar: Atmospheric moisture pathways and water vapour isotopologues
On 18 December 2017 at 13:00, Dr. Matthias Schneider (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany) imparted the seminar entitled "Atmospheric moisture pathways and water vapour isotopologues" at the Izaña Atmospheric Research Center's Offices in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This talk was focused on showing how remote sensing observations of tropospheric water vapour isotopologue composition can give novel opportunities for understanding the different water cycle processes and their link to the climate. This was done by presenting the main More...

Internal meeting of the Izaña Atmospheric Research Center (December 2017)
The annual internal meeting of the Izaña Atmospheric Research Centre (IARC) was held at the Izaña Observatory On December 14, 2017. The principal investigators of each working group presented their most recent activities, as well as the new objectives and activities planned for 2018.  Former IARC employees and collaborating researchers from other institutions also participated in this meeting. The meeting began with a summary of the most noteworthy activities carried out throughout the year, which was presented by the IARC's More...

Publication of the Izaña Atmospheric Research Centre 2015-2016 Activity Report
We are pleased to present the second Izaña Atmospheric Research Centre (IARC), State Meteorological Agency of Spain (AEMET) Activity Report (2015-2016). Many of the IARC activities are part of the Global Atmosphere Watch Programme (GAW) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), and the associated networks (NDACC, TCCON, BSRN, MPLNET), and therefore the report is co-published by AEMET and the WMO GAW Programme. GAW provides international leadership in research and capacity development in atmospheric composition observations More...

The monthly mean temperature in October 2017 was very high at Izaña Observatory
The thermometric behavior of last October 2017  has been anomalously warm at the Izaña Observatory. After the last years of 2015 and 2016, in which the month of October was only slightly above the median of the reference series 1961-90, October 2017appears as a very warm month. In fact, in October of 2017, the average monthly temperature of 13.2ºC exceeds the average of the maximum temperatures (12.8ºC) of the series 1961-90, and is placed second in the entire series since 1916, only exceeded by 13.7ºC recorded in October More...

Long-term temperature monthly average time series (1916-2017) at the Izaña Observatory
The Observatory at Izaña has a series of meteorological records that this year (2017) has marked 102 years. We have produced graphs of long-term monthly average temperature time series, corresponding to an extensive summer period (June-September) by month (each series corresponds to a specific month) of these 103 years. On these graphs we have included the statistics (percentiles, medians and extremes) of the reference series 1961-90, which is the reference period used for climate change studies. The records show that the 4 months More...

Participation in the EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference 2017
The Izaña Atmospheric Research Center have presented two studies in the “EUMETSAT Meteorological Satellite Conference 2017“, which was held in Rome (Italy) from 2 to 6 October 2017. The EUMETSAT Conference is the annual meeting of all the international groups developing and using space-based observations taken in the framework of the different monitoring programs of EUMETSAT (European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites). Within this forum, the new improvements on the different space-based remote sensors, More...
