Publication of the Paper “Wavelength calibration of Brewer spectrophotometer using a tunable pulsed laser and implications to the Brewer ozone retrieval"

 

The scientific paper “Wavelength calibration of Brewer spectrophotometer using a tunable pulsed laser and implications to the Brewer ozone retrieval” has been published in Atmospheric Measurement Techniques Journal after the public discussion.

This work in the framework of the ATMOZ project ("Traceability for atmospheric total column ozone")  allows validating the standard methodology used by the RBCC-E (Regional Brewer Calibration Center for Europe (RBCC-E / AEMET)). The Brewer spectrometer is the reference instrument for the ozone layer monitoring , with more than 200 instruments installed around the world and 50 of them in Europe, organized within Eubrewnet Brewer Network (EUBREWNET) network. The RBCC-E is the responsible of calibration of the European network organizing calibration campaigns with the travelling reference.

This work shows the calibration of the travelling reference with the tunable laser of the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB), in Braunschweig (Germany).  This calibration allows us validating the calibration methodology used in this campaigns. This  is essential for the total ozone algorithm retrieval used by the Brewer spectrometer. The results of this work will improve the EUBREWNET network measurements, allowing to include new measurements of aerosol optical depth in the UV region.

This work has been supported by the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) within the joint research project ENV59 "Traceability for atmospheric total column ozone" (ATMOZ) with the participation of AEMET and the La Laguna University.  Furthermore, data from the Eubrewnet Brewer Network have been used.
