Comparison to MOCAGE

Comparison of IASI observations to MOCAGE simulations on the Iberian Peninsula (figures below) has shown, consistently for CH4 and N2O, that both systems capture dynamics of the upper troposphere in a coherent way, but it has also clearly documented that they are not comparable in the lower troposphere. In addition, this comparison exercise has pointed out that refinements on IASI retrieval strategies (by improving the characterisation of surface emissivity or atmospheric temperature profile) and on MOCAGE estimates (by including emissions inventory updates) would be necessary to reconciliate the discrepancies found.
