19th WMO/IAEA Meeting on Carbon Dioxide, Other Greenhouse Gases, and Related Measurement Techniques (Dubendorf, Switzerland, August 27-31, 2017)
From 27 till 31 August 2017, the “19th WMO/IAEA Meeting on Carbon Dioxide, Other Greenhouse Gases, and Related Measurement Techniques (GGMT-2017)” was held in Dubendorf (Switzerland). The institution that hosted this meeting was EMPA, which acts as the World Calibration Centre (WCC) for CH4, CO2, CO and tropospheric O3, cooperates closely with the WCC for N2O, and performs scientific audits to the Global GAW stations (for example Izaña, where the last scientific audit for greenhouse gases, carbon monoxide and tropospheric ozone took place at the end of 2013, and the next one will take place in 2018).
The purpose of these meetings is the high accurate measurement (using the WMO scales for these gases) of carbon dioxide, other greenhouse gases, their isotopes, and related tracers (CO, ratio between nitrogen and oxygen…), new standardization techniques, quality assurance of the measurements, data products, and observational network design. In this edition of the meeting, there was also a session concerning the measurement of greenhouse gases dissolved in ocean water.
There were 159 attendees to this meeting coming from many institutions specialized in the measurement of atmospheric greenhouse gases, of many countries around the world. There were many scientific presentations: 47 talks and 70 posters (as well as some plenary speed talks to advertise the corresponding posters).
The research that leads the greenhouse gases in situ measurement programme of the Izaña Atmospheric Observatory (which is a global station of the WMO GAW programme), of the Izaña Atmospheric Research Center (AEMET), attended this meeting and gave a plenary scientific talk (click here to download it).
