Publication of the Paper “Sensitivity study of the instrumental temperature corrections on Brewer total ozone column measurements”

The scientific paper “Sensitivity study of the instrumental temperature corrections on Brewer total ozone column measurements” has been published in Atmospheric Measurement Techniques Journal after the public discussion.

In this paper, we report on a comparative study of the Brewer spectrophotometer temperature coefficients retrieval procedures. The work has been coordinated by the Regional Brewer Calibration Center for Europe (RBCC-E / AEMET), and we used measurements performed at the PTB and Kipp & Zonen facilities. The Brewer spectrophotometer has been used for decades as reference instrument to retrieve total ozone column (TOC) and for validation of satellite based measurements. This spectrophotometer has a thermal sensitivity, which is usually characterized using two different retrieval procedures, based on laboratory measurements in a thermal chamber, and on field measurements considering the natural daily temperature variation, using in both cases an internal halogen lamp. In this work we show that both methods are equivalents with differences below 0.08% in TOC.

This work has been supported by the European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) within the joint research project ENV59 “Traceability for atmospheric total column ozone” (ATMOZ). Furthermore data from the Eubrewnet Brewer Network have been used.
