Calibration of the Cimel sun-photometer of the AERONET station in Cairo (Egypt)

 

From November 17th to 21st, 2014, the annual maintenance and SUN and SKY calibration of the Cimel sun-photometer installed at the Cairo_EMA_2 station (AERONETPHOTONSRIMA network) have been performed at the Izaña station (IARCAEMET). This activity has been developed as a contribution to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) Sand and Dust Storm Warning Advisory and Assessment System (SDS-WAS). This mission is part of the Izaña’s activities as WMO-CIMO Testbed for Aerosols and Water Vapor Remote Sensing Instruments.

Furthermore, Mr Abdelhamid Gouda Elawadi, Director of the Air Pollution Department – Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) attended to a 20-hour training course on Cimel sun-photometer operation given by Ms. Carmen Guirado Fuentes, under the supervision of Dr. Emilio Cuevas, that was held from November 18th to 20th.

On November 26th, the Cimel sun photometer was installed again in the roof of the EMA at Cairo. Information on the station, the principle researchers and the site manager for the station can be found here. Data can be accessed here in near-real time.
