I Conference/Symposium on Air Quality and Environmental Meteorology in the Canary Islands
The 1st Conference on Air Quality and Environmental Meteorology was held on March 17 and 18 and was organized by the Canary Government Department for the Environment and the Meteorological State Agency of Spain (AEMET) with the participation of seventy engineers and specialists in environmental management. The conference dealt with the more technical aspects of the measurement and characterization of reactive gases and atmospheric particles, meteorological factors affecting air quality, the national dust intrusion forecasting system, the automated forecasting system for adverse meteorological situations operative at CIAI and the CALIOPE-CAN modeling system for air-quality in the Canaries. In addition to these topics, presentations were made of data validation methods, policies for the monitoring and control of air quality in the Canaries and the Department for the Environment’s operating web site which provides on-line data from the Canary Islands Air Quality Monitoring Network. Of the eight speakers, five form part of the various research groups at the Izaña Atmopsheric Research Center.
