The international Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) has been recognized as a finalist and runner-up in the inaugural Global Climate Research Prize, a prestigious international award that honors research and scientific infrastructures with outstanding impact in the fight against climate change. This recognition highlights TCCON’s fundamental role in the global observation of greenhouse gases. Through a network of spectrometers distributed around the world (including the Izaña Atmospheric Observatory), TCCON provides high-precision measurements that make it possible to validate and improve satellite observations, contributing to a better understanding of the carbon cycle and the evolution of Earth’s climate. The distinction represents a significant endorsement of the collaborative work carried out by the international scientific community that maintains and develops this benchmark network for climate research.
