Today we join the global ozone-measurement community in highlighting the importance of accurate ozone measurements for clean air and blue skies.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥: In 2025, ground-level ozone monitoring networks worldwide are adopting an updated UV ozone absorption cross-section, with the BIPM supporting the transition to improve accuracy and comparability.

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥: This will improve comparability across sites, over time, and will reduce uncertainty. This in turn will allow trend analyses, research and health-related decisions to be based on even more reliable measurements.
